Site History:

Aonach Mor has been an established ski area for some years and pilots have not been slow to make use of the uplift. The gondola is  open all year, giving easy access to the hill. Special rates for paragliders.

Brief Site Description:

A massive hill, with quite a steep face. Gondola makes it a pleasure to fly, scenery is brilliant, thermals are good.

How to get there:

On the A82, 6 miles North East of Fort William,     Map link here      Nevis Range Car Park.

Restricted Areas:

Young tree plantations, car park area - when busy.

Link to CANP system to notify other aircraft of activity in this area.

Launch Notes:

Take the gondola lift or walk up to the gondola top station. From the top of the gondola follow the footpath north to Sgurr Finnisg-aig viewpoint as shown on the map.

 

If the wind is more easterly head west from the gondola to the west launch.

XC Tips:

Many XC routes possible to Fort William, Glen Nevis, Kinlochleven and beyond. See the Cliff Smith Gary Williamson guide for more details.

Top Landing Notes:

Paragliders can top land anywhere, but beware of soft / uneven ground.

Bottom Landing Notes:

There have been several accidents landing in the car park and this is not recommended due to thermal activity and sudden changes in wind direction. The forest roads just south east of the main car park are a safer option.

 

 

Hazards:

Ski lift cables, many forested areas, turbulence and thermals from the car park. Tourists at launch.
